Ruby on Rails

There comes a time in every software developers life that the joys of programming can become hindered by writing line after line CRUD (Create, Read, Update, Delete) procedures just to make your nifty new Killer-App work. Enter Ruby On Rails! I have been using the framework for about a month now and let me tell you, it blows visual studio out of the water! For instance, in VS (I'm a C# programmer) if want to create a database and then insert, update, and delete data from it through a convenient interface it requires me to:

  1. use the visual tools to create the SQL statements to design the table metadata (columns , primary and foreign key constraints etc)
  2. create a data table and table-adapter with these tools (which will have to be heavily customized for each CRUD operation)
  3. hand code sql queries to get something useful out of the data.
It doesn't really seem like that much eh? Well what if you are not just writing an app for your personal used sock collection? If you need to start from a what-information-do-I-already-have, the tools in VS are not very adaptive to existing databases. On my last project i had to redesign the Human Resources Database Management System databases from an old Access MDB. Now, I went with what I know, C#. But what if I went with the Rails way instead? What if I had taken advantage of Ruby's convention over configuration principle?

What is to follow over the next however-long will be a series of Ruby on Rails posts (as I discover more about this exciting language) to help get more people into this fast-growing open-source community of developers. Feel free to leave comments or suggestions on topics you might be curious about!

behaviour modification experiments on "unwitting" US citizens... It evokes shades of KUBARK ... People have (and I mean citizens) been self deluding about this for years! I am willing to wage against people actually accepting that this happens.

Mr. Wizard has gone to the great lab in the sky.

Mr. Wizard Studios

It is with a heavy heart I present to you one of the most influential people in my childhood has died.

He who influenced thousands since 1951 to reach beyond their own limited experiences to grasp at knowledge and to wield it with the precision of logic. He taught me that pragmatism and exploration were the keys to understanding. That these traits are not just stubbornness and daydreaming as many of my grammar school teachers treated them. Here's to the last man to be well-known for something other than being well-known.

A test of worth...

lang:ruby ai - Google Code Search

"There Appears to be a significant probability, provided all parameters are maximized to their fullest potential within the constraints of demographics variance, that none of the anticipated data will demonstrate behavioral objectives, so to speak, or the derivationally motivated contingency. This is of course somewhat oversimplified, but its implications need not be belabored, since they will be obvious to all of you, and you need only refer to the relevant literature (which, I might add, is abundant) for further details."

Jesus makes a rare appearance for San Antonio man!

" People have seen Jesus' image in a lot of places — in a pan, on a window, in a tree — but now a Floresville man says an image of Jesus has landed on his car "

Call me bat-shit crazy, gods or no gods withstanding; this is the best miracle I have heard about in a long time. Just think... the Lord Gawd Almighty ® saw it fit to bless Texas with his own hand and graciously smear his love all over this homeland of our president! You probably think that this blessing of avian excrement wasn't intended for the same guy that is ransacking this planet that he believes was handed to him on a silver platter by his vindictive deity. Well your wrong.

You should know better than that. Of course our favorite old man in the sky, with his zombie son in tow of course, would bestow this "spiritual gift" upon him at the Rose Garden! He is the decider , and has decided that since he is on a mission from god, he should authorize some "non lethal" CIA covert operations surreptitious gospel spreading in Iran. I think he needs to find some thing to keep him busy, idle hands are the Devil's Workshop!

What would happen if a blogger posed as a police officer?

From MetaFilter:

"If people can't trust that journalists are journalists, then we are on the road to intellectual anarchy."

May 22, 2007 6:37 AM Vancouver police posed as journalists to lure out and arrest the activist who threatened to bring protest of the 2010 Vancouver Olympics to the doorsteps of Olympic officials - and it isn't the first time police in BC have impersonated the media to make an arrest. The Canadian Association of Journalists is not amused, but a constable speaking for the VPD "doubts the outrage from the person on the street over the issue would be the same as it has been from the journalistic community".

How much longer can we allow the FDA to keep doing this to us?

NewsLocale - Should Diabetes Patients Stop Taking Avandia?

"GlaxoSmithKline said its own meta-analysis had proved Avandia increased heart risks by 30 percent. "

The FDA has repeatedly fallen short with their so called studies. Time and time again we hear that this drug will will cause heart failure, or that drug will cause you deafness not to mention is the leading gateway drug, surpassing marijuana.
So were saying here that all these pills that even they tell us are bad for us are legal; however, something that even improves cognitive functions in schizophrenics is still illegal.

Perhaps it's not our best interest they are looking out for. Pharmaceutical companies have a great interest in treating illness not curing it. For if they were to cure AIDS, how could they afford to invent new illnesses for which to implement these drugs that they create without solving any problems we allready have.

London, Feb 27: ‘Titanic’ director James Cameron is bound to stir up a

hornet’s nest with claims that he has discovered the coffins of Jesus,

as well as his ‘wife’ Mary Magdalene, and their son.

The Hollywood director has produced a documentary

called ‘The Lost Tomb of Jesus’ telling the story of ten stone coffins

found in a 2,000-year-old tomb in Jerusalem by Israeli builders.
